Perth’s Aidan Read has designs on third overall in the Formula Masters China Series as he jets off to the Far East for the concluding part of the 2015 season at the ultra-modern Shanghai International Circuit (17-19 October).
The Australian hotshot raced on home shores prior to the end of 2014, but rounded-off last year with an exploratory outing in the Formula Masters China Series, as a precursor to a maiden full-time campaign in the Far Eastern entry-level single-seater championship in 2015.
Read has benefited from guidance from the experienced heads at Eurasia Motorsport over the last 18 months and completes the season a more well-rounded and refined young hopeful, who has the potential to continue ascending the international motor racing ladder.
Having regularly frequented the top five positions, Read enters the final round of the 2015 FMCS at China’s premier motor racing venue and the home of the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix – the Shanghai International Circuit – lying fourth in the standings.
However, third position is well within reach and Read said: “I clawed back some points in the most recent round of the Formula Masters China Series at the Zhuhai International Circuit and third in the championship is in sight as a result. On the whole, it has been a very positive season; it started well and I held third in the points until I hit a difficult patch midway through the year in Taiwan and Kuala Lumpur, falling to fourth. I’m gunning for third, but whatever happens, happens. All I can do is extract the most from myself and the car in a bid to take maximum points from this weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit and see where I end up.
“The truth is, I never set myself any targets at the beginning of the year, as I don’t think it’s wise to go into a season with results in mind. In motorsport results can be affected by factors that are out of your control so you just have to focus on what you can do as a driver. Of course, I’ve been to the SIC twice before and I hope to build on that experience. That’s what the FMCS is about, identifying ways in which you can improve and going out and doing it.”
