Optimum Motorsport looks to continue to its early season momentum this weekend (26-28 May 2017) as the British GT championship visits Snetterton.
Graham Johnson and Mike Robinson will again compete in the #501 Ginetta G55 and the third race meeting of the season will offer the chance of a return to the podium once again, having achieved this both at Oulton Park and Rockingham Motor Speedway.
The duo are second in the GT4 standings, just 15 points shy of the series lead and while the circuit is a favourite for Robinson, Johnson has his concerns about the long straights that dominate the circuit.

Mike Robinson said: “Graham and I have had a strong start to our title defence, being the only team to finish on the podium in every race so far shows our consistency. At Rockingham, we took a good step forward with the car and had it not been for contact on lap one which damaged our exhaust and steering we could have fought for the win.

“Snetterton is one of my favourite circuits and Graham and I have finished strongly there in the past so we will be aiming to continue our run of podiums and hopefully fight for a win.”

Graham Johnson said: “It’ll be tough to get a podium at Snetterton with its two long straights. Our slower, less powerful Ginetta makes us vulnerable to our rivals but we are focused on finishing in the top five in the first race and hoping to bag another podium in the second race assuming others get success time penalties.

“In truth, Snetterton is about damage-limitation; it’s simply about adding as much as possible to our existing points tally. We’ll be aiming to staying out of trouble, be consistent and be quick. Qualifying will be important because you can be sure that the more powerful cars will overtake us on the straights in the early laps!”

Optimum Motorsport Team Principal, Shaun Goff, said: “”Snetterton proved a tough weekend for the Ginetta last year! The introduction of the a silver/silver extra stop time will help is as we have a success penalty to carry too. I think we may end up in good shape in race one and in race two just bag some points…”

Round 3 of the British GT Championship takes place at the 2.99-mile Snetterton 300 circuit in Norfolk.
