Devon Modell will be seeking to lay both hands on the 2014 Avon Tyres British GT4 title at the history-rich Donington Park circuit’s highly-anticipated season finale this weekend (13-14 September).

Stretching 2.49miles, the Donington Park Grand Prix circuit encompasses a plethora of fast, sweeping bends and tight hairpins that will require both car and driver to be at the top of their game in order to scale the winners’ rostrum.

Having completed an 11th-hour deal, Modell headed into the highly competitive British GT Championship with an open mind, and, to be fighting for the GT4 title with one race remaining exceeds all expectations and suggests the Maidstone-based driver has the ability to compete in the highest echelons of motorsport.

With five podiums to his name, including two class victories at Oulton Park and Belgium’s legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Modell heads to the East Midlands confident that he can add to his wins tally, but knows that the outcome of the title race lies in the hands of his Beechdean AMR rivals.

Due to a poorly executed Safety Car last time out at Brands Hatch, Modell and teammate Andrew Jarman were denied a class victory and the chance to stand atop the Drivers’ Championship going into Donington’s grand finale, but are more determined than ever to return to the top step of the podium at a circuit that will play to the strengths of their Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4.

“We have to win the race,” said Modell. “That is the sole aim and all that matters, and it will certainly be an interesting race, as a result. The Ginetta and Lotus cars will be very good through the corners, but it’s a circuit where we can utilise the Aston Martin’s speed and pull off a lot of overtaking, but I’m hoping we won’t need to do that and simply drive off into the distance.

“Having tested at the circuit a few weeks ago, I believe that the Aston is the best package, as it has the speed and looks after its tyres very well, which falls into our hands towards the latter half of the race. At every race this season, we’ve shown that we have a great race setup and have been able to climb to the front very quickly, but we will be hoping to qualify on this front to give us a helping hand. Overall, I’m looking forward to this weekend and can’t wait to get out there.”

Qualifying for the final round of the 2014 Avon Tyres British GT Championship is scheduled for 15.50 on Saturday (13 September), and the race itself will be held over two hours from 12.55 on Sunday (14 September).
