The all-action Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup returns to North Yorkshire’s Croft Circuit this weekend (28-29 June) for another dose of high-octane entertainment, as Devon Modell seeks to reinvigorate his 2014 campaign.
Preceding a protracted mid-summer break, the North-East’s premier motor racing venue, Croft Circuit, marks the halfway point of an already exciting season.
Modell, 23, notched up two top-five finishes in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Snetterton ‘300’ last weekend in his TF Sport-run Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 following a series of close on-track battles.
The Maidstone-domiciled driver maintained an unbroken run of top ten finishes at a weather-contrasting Oulton Park three weeks ago but seeks to ignite his UK Clio Cup campaign with a brace of top five results at Croft.
“Last year I wrote off my car, so I’m hoping for a complete upturn in fortunes this time around” said Modell. “It will certainly be an interesting weekend, as it’s a very quick track and I’m not sure how the new generation Clio will handle. Last year a lot of it was flat-out and many drivers abused track limits, so race stewards may come down heavier on us and, with this year’s car feeling heavier, it will be a challenge to keep it within the lines.
“Before I damaged the car at last year’s event, I was lapping within the top five en-route to a good finish. The Westbourne Motorsport team has fixed the overheating problems that plagued us at Oulton Park, so this weekend I will be aiming for more top five finishes. Fingers crossed for a podium or two!”
Qualifying for Rounds 9 and 10 of the Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup is scheduled to take place at 15.05 on Saturday (28 June), while the weekend’s two races will be held at 12.42 and 16.19 on Sunday (29 June).
