Experienced endurance racer, Devon Modell, will compete in the second round of the Hankook 24H Series – the 12 Hour of Mugello – this weekend (13-14 March), sharing a familiar Speedworks Motorsport-run Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 with John Gilbert and Ollie Hancock.
The Hankook 24H Series consists of both 12 and 24-hour endurance races that are aimed at a wide spectrum of drivers, ranging from amateurs to professionals, in an array of machinery, from ‘hot hatchbacks’ to purpose-built silhouette GT3s.
Situated 23 miles north of Florence, Tuscany, Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello is property of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team and encompasses a mixture of chicanes, elongated turns and long straights that will expose any aerodynamic and setup deficiencies.
2014 was a formidable season for Modell, having emerged as a regular visitor to the winners’ rostrum and finishing runner-up in the GT4 division of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship in a TF Sport-run Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
A defining moment in Modell’s career came in the latter part of the year when he helped propel Black Falcon to a podium finish in the Blancpain Endurance Series while behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 in treacherous conditions at Germany’s Nürburgring.
The 24-year old from Maidstone, England then added to his impressive résumé by finishing third at this year’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour in Australia and will be seeking to repeat his strong run of form on Italian soil this weekend (13-14 March).
The opening four hours of the Hankook 12 Hour of Mugello are scheduled to get underway at 13.30 (CET) on Friday (13 March), before the cars and drivers return to parc fermé until the race resumption at 09.30 (CET) on Saturday (14 March).
