Devon Modell is again set for a busy Bank Holiday weekend (3-5 May), as he will traverse the UK to contest the latest rounds of both the Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup and Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

The 23-year old travelled between Donington Park in the East Midlands and Oulton Park in the North East less than a fortnight ago while juggling his UK Clio Cup and British GT commitments and will once again crisscross the UK, hopping between Hampshire’s ultra-high speed Thruxton circuit and Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, Northamptonshire over the course of the Bank Holiday (3-5 May).

Modell goes into Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2014 UK Clio Cup – Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship – at Thruxton in high spirits, having gone fourth fastest in official testing there earlier this month (17 April).

The Maidstone-domiciled racer is also prepared for the second instalment of the 2014 British GT Championship on Rockingham’s 1.94mile International Super Sportscar circuit on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday (4-5 May).

Having made an instant splash by taking a GT4 class win and podium finish on his debut in the British GT Championship at Oulton Park less than two weeks ago, Modell is hoping to repeat those results in Monday’s two-hour endurance race and cement his and teammate Andrew Jarman’s position at the head of the GT4 points table.

“I’d like to replicate the success we had in the last outing of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship,” said Modell. “The Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 doesn’t suit the Rockingham circuit as much as it did at Oulton Park but, as it’s one long endurance race rather than a sprint, it’s all about managing the tyres and not always pushing to your absolute limit. If you get your strategy correct, it will benefit you come the end of the race when you’ll be able to pick off your rivals.

“TF Sport and I did some testing with the V8 Vantage last week at Rockingham, which is a track I have fond memories of – I won in the Michelin Clio Cup Series ‘Autumn Cup’ event at the back end of last year. We were unable to get much dry running, but we were able to find a decent wet setup that I was very happy with.”

Modell continued: “A couple of podium finishes in the Renault UK Clio Cup would be nice, as it would help get the season back on track. I have only raced at Thruxton on one occasion in the Clios, but I do like the track as it’s fast and there’s a lot of time to be found if you get into a rhythm.”

Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2014 Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup will take place at 10.40 and 15.50 on Sunday (4 May).

Meanwhile, Avon Tyres British GT Championship qualifying is scheduled to begin at 15.45 on Sunday (4 May), with the two-hour endurance race taking place on Bank Holiday Monday (5 May) at 13.55.
