Perth racer Aidan Read is delighted to confirm that he will join the Craft-Bamboo Racing team for the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia where he will campaign a Porsche 911 GT3R.
This will be Aidan’s second year in the 12 round Asian series having competed in his debut GT3 season last year in a Lamborghini Huracan, culminating with a fine second place overall in the final round of the season. Aidan went from strength to strength as he gained experience with GT machinery having successfully raced Formula and Prototype cars previously.
In making the switch to the race winning Craft-Bamboo Racing team Aidan is hoping that he will build on the progress made in 2017 to become a regular podium visitor whilst mounting a championship challenge.
“I cannot wait to get started,” Aidan said. “Craft-Bamboo are an exceptionally professional outfit with a history and reputation for winning across a multitude of racing categories and were formidable competitors in Blancpain Asia last year.
“I have already had the opportunity to sample the 911 GT3R in testing at Sepang and have to say I was very impressed and felt immediately at home in the car, which bodes well for a successful season.”
For Darryl O’Young, Team Director of Craft-Bamboo Racing, Aidan’s signing for the season can only be of benefit to the team. “We were very excited at the prospect of signing Aidan over the winter, and after the test in Sepang, he showed how quickly he could adapt to the Porsche and his serious potential. He’s fast, technical, humble and mature. All of the qualities we look for in our drivers.
“We can’t wait to get to work with Aidan and get the season underway in April. We have seen the speed of the Porsche and expect a competitive season ahead with a driver of Aidan’s calibre.”
Blancpain GT Series Asia starts in Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit on April 14-15 with further rounds in Thailand and Japan before concluding in October in China.
