Inception Racing with Optimum Motorsport’s winter programme is taking shape with the British-based squad confirming its entry into the Asian Le Mans Series, which takes place at the state-of-the-art Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi next February.

The McLaren Customer team has already confirmed its entry into the Gulf 12 Hours, and there will be a great deal of continuity as the team’s pairing of GT3 drivers – Brendan Iribe and Ollie Millroy – will pilot the McLaren 720S GT3 entry in what will be a four-round championship. The team’s third driver has yet to be confirmed.

Optimum Motorsport competed in the British GT Championship, International GT Open as well as GT World Challenge Europe in 2020 and is now preparing for what promises to be a comprehensive 2021 season ahead as well as its debut in Asian Le Mans.

The series gets underway in Abu Dhabi with two races on the weekend of 5/6 February with another two rounds expected to take place at the same venue shortly afterwards.

Ollie Millroy, Inception Racing with Optimum Motorsport
“It’s very cool to be returning the Asian Le Mans Series again. I’ve known (series Managing Director) Cyrille Taesch since 2014 when I first took part in the championship, so I’m delighted for him, the series and the ACO to be able to put together such a strong grid in difficult times. I’ve competed in this championship previously in a variety of machines and circuits, but obviously, the 2021 edition will be a little different being in the Middle East.

“Brendan and I have a good history together in Abu Dhabi, winning the Gulf 12 Hours at the same circuit last year in the GT4 class. We both love the track – the facility as a whole – so hopefully we’ll be strong, and the layout should really suit the 720S. We’ve yet to decide on the third driver, but we expect it to be a gold or platinum driver in that third seat. It’s going to be awesome!”

Shaun Goff, Optimum Motorsport Team Principal
“There is a lot of preparation going into these fly-away races, starting with the test in Dubai this week. It’s a big programme for us; we continue to grow as a team, and this will be our first time competing in the Asian Le Mans Series. We’re delighted to be running the Inception Racing entry in this great series.

“Brendan and Ollie continue to improve as an overall package together, so we need to find the right combination for the third driver in the car to ensure that we can battle for GT honours in Abu Dhabi.”
