Aidan Wright says Rounds 13, 14 and 15 of the 2013 Formula Masters China Series (FMCS) at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia (14-15 September) are the most important races of his career to date, with the hotly-contested championship battle nearing its conclusion.

Wright, backed by SLY Collective – an original Australian underwear brand that embodies the edgy Gold Coast lifestyle – has acquitted himself well in his maiden Formula Masters campaign.

The Cairns-domiciled racer utterly dominated proceedings on the series’ maiden visit to South Korean soil last month, snatching the championship initiative with a trio of convincing race wins and a podium finish.

As a consequence, the 18-year old has a five-point lead over Meritus GP team-mate Afiq Yazid with six races remaining at Sepang and Shanghai, plus the end-of-season invitational at the Macau Grand Prix.

He is determined to bolster his advantage with another assertive performance this weekend at the 5.54km Malaysian circuit and reward his Kuala Lumpur-based Meritus GP team with more silverware on its home venue.

However, Wright is reluctant to underestimate the opposition as the season edges towards its highly-anticipated conclusion, saying: “The Sepang International Circuit is a very exciting track and a major testing ground for all drivers who compete in Asia, so I am expecting the competition to be extremely high there. It is my team-mate’s home circuit and I expect both of us to be strong.

“The championship title feels within reach, but the fight is far from over and will go down to the wire. Every point counts, but I aim to win in Malaysia. I just hope things fall my way and I’m really looking forward to competing in what will undoubtedly be the most important races of my young career so far.”
