Newly-crowned Champion, Aidan Wright, is eager to conclude a sensational season with race wins in the final invitational round of the 2013 Formula Masters China Series (FMCS) on the streets of Macau (9-10 November).
With 11 podium finishes – including six race wins – to his name, Wright narrowly sealed the inaugural Formula Masters China title in the final points-scoring race of the year at the Shanghai International Circuit a fortnight ago (25-27 October).
The 18-year old from Cairns, Australia has made a huge impact in the Asian motorsport scene and is determined to conquer the challenging Circuito da Guia street track and cap off a sensational year atop the winners’ rostrum.
Formula Masters China – Asia’s latest entry-level single-seater series – will run for the final time this year as part of the prestigious Macau Grand Prix, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2013 and remains one of the glittering highlights of the international motorsport calendar.
With an exhilarating combination of long, fast straights and sharp, twisting sections spread over 6.2kms, the barrier-lined Guia street circuit is regarded by many as one of the world’s most demanding motorsport venues.
Wright expects to face the sternest challenge of his career this weekend, but is understandably excited about the prospect of threading his Meritus GP-prepared Formula Masters racer through the fast and narrow streets of Macau
“I’m really looking forward to racing on the streets of Macau and participating in this unique Grand Prix event,” said Wright. “It’s such a tricky and unique circuit with a very low margin for error so it’s all about being quick while staying out of the barriers. I expect this to be the most demanding weekend of the year but I’m sure the Guia circuit will become one of my personal favourites. I’m still on a massive high after winning the Formula Masters title and I’m determined to finish the year on the podium – preferably the top step – in Macau.”
The sole Formula Masters China Series free practice sessions will begin at 9.45 on Saturday (9 November), while qualifying gets underway at 14.20 later that same day and the final race of the season at 16.00 on Sunday (10 November).
