Aidan Wright is looking to take the initiative in the Formula Masters China Series (FMCS) by achieving race wins and podium finishes in Rounds 7, 8 and 9 at the Ordos International Circuit (5-7 July).

Wright, backed by SLY Collective – an original Australian men’s underwear brand that embodies the edgy Gold Coast lifestyle –  has had a highly successful start to his maiden FMCS campaign, surprising the competition by taking a brace of race victories at Zhuhai’s season-opener and two consecutive podium finishes on the Shanghai International Circuit most recently.

As a result, the 18-year old Australian currently holds third in the Drivers’ standings with a slender six-point deficit to series leader and team-mate Afiq Yazid, while his multiple title-winning Meritus GP outfit comfortably leads the way in the Teams’ table.

The ultra-modern 3.75km Ordos International Circuit is located in the Mongolian province of China. Inaugurated in 2010, its 18-corner configuration is a challenge for drivers to master.

However, Wright has been working tirelessly on ensuring he’s in the best shape possible for his return to Chinese soil. The Cairns-based racer has increased the intensity of his training regime and spent hours learning the intricacies of the Ordos track on a simulator and heads into the forthcoming weekend brimming with optimism.

“Ordos is a fairly new track that brings uniqueness and excitement,” said Wright. “China is always a fascinating place to visit and the fans are out of this world. I am really excited about taking on the long, sweeping corners as well as the crucial tight sections of the track.

“It’s going to be great fun learning the circuit’s intricacies and seeing who’s going to be quick. The competition in the FMCS is formidable, as there are many very experienced drivers, but I hope to return to Australia as the championship leader. It won’t be easy, but the successes at Zhuhai and Shanghai show it’s a realistic objective.”
