Meritus GP’s Aidan Wright aims to rediscover his racing mojo in Rounds 9, 10, 11 and 12 of the 2013 Formula Masters China Series (FMCS) at South Korea’s Inje Speedium International Circuit (9-11 August).
The Cairns-domiciled racer, backed by SLY Collective – an original Australian underwear brand that embodies the Gold Coast lifestyle – is in his maiden FMCS campaign.
Wright has been a regular feature at the sharp end of the field, stunning the opposition by taking a brace of race wins in Zhuhai’s season-opener and following those up with two consecutive podium finishes in Shanghai.
With Round 9 rescheduled after changes to the race programme in Ordos, there will be four opportunities to score valuable points in Formula Masters’ maiden visit to South Korean soil this weekend (9-11 August).
Wright, aged 18, is keen to return to the top step of the winners’ rostrum after a relatively frustrating outing at the Inner Mongolia-based Ordos circuit last month and is looking forward to conquering the physically challenging 4.2km Inje circuit.
“Going into Inje I am feeling quite comfortable and relaxed,” said Wright. “I’ve had a great time travelling around Japan and Seoul with my family, as it gave us a chance to really take in and acclimatise to the culture.
“Inje is an amazing track with a lot of undulations and tight corners, which should make for some very interesting racing. The lap is quite short at only 4.2km, but it encompasses 20 corners and you have little time for rest. I think the nature of the circuit will definitely showcase the fittest drivers.
Wright added: “It is a real driver’s track that requires controlled aggression and I’m looking to get my racing mojo back this weekend to bolster my position in the championship standings after a frustrating time in Ordos. My team and I are looking for race wins, but I just need to be consistent and chip away at it. There are still three rounds left, so the championship is far from over. Anything can happen!”
