TF Sport will cement its status as a frontrunner in sportscar racing after announcing a full-time assault on the 2015 GT Cup with Andy Schulz and Paul Bailey.
TF Sport was established in early 2014 by former British Touring Car and British GT driver, Tom Ferrier, and quickly established itself at the forefront of GT racing. Now into its second full season, the Redhill, Surrey-based outfit will compete in several high-profile GT championships, including the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and the GT Cup.
The 2014 season was a tremendous year for the GT Cup with grid numbers regularly into the thirties, as the series’ standing continued to rise. For 2015, growth continues and a number of evolutions and enhancements will enable drivers to compete on a level playing field.
The championship, which boasts a plethora of state-of-the-art GT3 and GT4-spec cars ranging from BMWs to Ferraris, is heading into arguably one of the most exciting seasons in its history.
Bailey and Schulz will spearhead TF Sport’s GT Cup campaign after an eye-opening season in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, during which the duo recorded two top ten finishes, including an eighth place at the highly demanding and iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Regular race winners in some of Europe’s most celebrated sportscar contests, Bailey and Schulz, who took top honours in the GTC division of the 2013 British GT Championship, are excited about returning to the series.
A relative newcomer to the racing scene, Bailey has achieved a great deal of success since first indulging in his passion for motorsport in 2010. The Rutland-based driver won the Pirelli Ferrari Open at the first time of asking, before taking top honours in Britcar the following year.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of the GT Cup at Brands Hatch last year, as the organisers made me feel very welcome and valued,” said Bailey. “It made my choice to return to the series very easy. With 24 races over the course of eight weekends and in terms of enjoyment, the GT Cup represents fantastic value for money and is as competitive as I need it to be.
“Whenever I put my racing helmet on, I want to win the championship, but, at a personal level, I want to have some fun and really enjoy myself. We have a strong chance of winning some races and I’m very excited for the 2015 season to start.”
Schulz, who has over two decades of experience as a racing driver and coach that spans all forms of motor racing, said, “I’ve not been in a race car since September, so it will be nice to get back in the driving seat. In the GT Cup we have found a championship that is just as competitive as the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, but will allow us to have more fun and track time. We contested a round at Brands Hatch last season, which we won, so there is no pressure on us. The more Paul (Bailey) enjoys his time on track, the faster he goes, but we are aiming for a few podiums, as you always want to be competitive. We will also be undertaking a lot more in-car work and coaching, which will give Paul a confidence boost for the season ahead.”
The 2015 GT Cup season is scheduled to get underway at the Donington Park circuit on the Derbyshire/Leicestershire border on 25-26 April.
