TF Sport – British GT Round 5
Facts and Stats
TF Sport travelled to Spa Francorchamps at the weekend (7-8 July, 2017) for rounds seven and eight of the British GT Championship. Last year’s race winners Jon Barnes and Mark Farmer finished third in the Pro/Am class after difficulties in qualifying, while Jonny Adam and Derek Johnston finished fourth. The results leaves Adam and Johnston third in the Pro/Am standings, ten points clear of Barnes and Farmer.
RACE 7
The first race saw Farmer and Johnston line up eighth and 12th respectively. The former made a good start to maintain position, but Johnston – following contact – suffered a spin and the #1 Aston Martin plummeted to the tail of the field.
A lengthy safety car period followed, meaning little track action for much of the first 30 minutes of the race. Farmer handed over to Barnes, re-joining in seventh position while Adam took over in 12th position.
Both made gains in the final laps with Barnes moving to sixth at the chequered flag with Adam pushing hard to finish in ninth.
RACE 8
Johnston exited the pits second, but found himself pushed down the order as a Ferrari dived down the inside on his out lap, forcing him onto the marbles and costing him what would be effectively five positions as a result of a half spin.
The race settled into down following the stops with Farmer running in sixth and Johnston in ninth before an incident at the head of the field saw the leading #33 car lose out and the #31 receive a penalty. Farmer and Johnston took the chequered flag fourth and sixth respectively, third and fourth in Pro/Am British GT.

“From my point of view, we once again didn’t fulfil our potential in qualifying and this makes the weekend very hard. We had better pace than the results showed. We still scored so decent points but we need huge showings at Brands Hatch and Donington Park to finish where we would like in the championship.”

“Two cars in the Pro/Am top four in the second race was good. The car performed well and the race pace was strong. We maybe just had a bit of bad luck out there and maybe could have been on the podium in race two.”

“I think Mark and I were both quite disappointed with our pace in qualifying and we found some problems with the car Friday evening which were the cause. Traditionally the races have gone much better for us this year and thankfully it was the same on Saturday.
“To recover and score championship points for fourth in race one and third in race two was a good effort considering our starting positions. I’m hopeful that we’ll be back and in much better form at Brands Hatch in August.”
