North Yorkshire’s Croft Circuit welcomes the arrival of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain this weekend (28-29 June), where Scholarship championship leader Connor Mills will be hoping to tighten his grip on the top of the standings.

The North East’s premier motor racing venue celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2014 and the all-action Formula Ford Championship returns to the circuit to deliver an irresistible dose of high-octane motorsport entertainment.

The super-fast sweeping curves of the Jim Clark Esses and Barcroft are a genuine white-knuckle ride, as all are taken at over 115mph in current Formula Ford machinery, while the opening sequence of corners and the tight final Complex provide a technical challenge for drivers.

Leading the Scholarship standings with four victories to his credit, Essex-based Connor Mills will be looking to open a gap to his nearest rivals, fellow class winners Ricky Collard and Ashley Sutton.

The Upminster driver is enjoying his time at the top of the standings, and prefers to be the hunted rather than the hunter.

“I have no previous experience of Croft Circuit, but I had never been to Oulton Park before and everything went well there so I don’t expect it to take too long for me to adapt and get up to speed,” said Mills. “I know where the track goes and I quite like how it has a mixture of fast and slow-speed sections, and the chicanes in the middle sector look pretty fun. That variety should suit my driving style and bring out the best in me, so the objective remains the same – to extend my lead in the Scholarship standings by finishing on the podium in all three races or taking a class win. It has got a bit tight at the top of the standings and it’s always good to know that you’re in a position where, if you have a bad weekend, you will still be in contention for the title. Being in the lead gives me that cushion.”

Returning to the Meridian Racing fold for a second consecutive weekend, Connor Jupp will be looking to improve on an impressive debut in changeable conditions at Cheshire’s Oulton Park three weeks ago.

The karting ace finished as high as ninth in Round 11 and looked to have the pace needed to overtake the experienced Collard and secure a Scholarship podium, before the session was red-flagged prematurely due to an approaching noise curfew.

Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain qualifying at Croft Circuit will take place at 10.25, with the first two races of the weekend at 14.10 and 17.25 respectively on Saturday (28 June).

The third and final outing for the Formula Ford GB runners will be held the following day (Sunday 29 June) at 15.49 and will be broadcast live and in high definition on ITV4 and ITV4HD.
