The Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup bursts back into life after a six-week break this weekend (2-3 August) at Norfolk’s Snetterton ‘300’ circuit, and Maidstone’s Devon Modell will be looking to reignite his season with podium finishes.
The second half of an already exciting season opens at Norfolk’s premier motor racing venue, Snetterton, which comprises of several challenging corners, modeled on sections of some of world motorsport’s most iconic circuits, such as Monza in Italy and Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada.
While many drivers on the UK Clio Cup grid have taken some much-needed rest from the high-octane, fast-paced world of motorsport, Modell has kept his hand in.
The Kent-based racer notched up race wins in the highly competitive Avon Tyres British GT Championship, he and TF Sport teammate Andrew Jarman most recently taking their TF Sport-run Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 to the top step of the podium at Belgium’s legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Currently tenth in the UK Clio Cup Drivers’ standings, Modell will be seeking to stabilise what has been a topsy-turvy season in Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship by becoming a regular feature on the podium and consistently collecting big points.
“I’ve been enjoying the summer break and getting some well-deserved rest, so I feel refreshed heading into the latter half of the season,” said Modell. “My aim now is to try and get on the podium at every weekend, and see if I can also help my teammate James Colburn win the title.
“Snetterton will certainly be an interesting challenge in the latest generation Clio Cup racer, as we have no idea how they will perform until Friday’s practice sessions. I need to qualify better than I have done in the past and, if I can do that, it will set me up for a good weekend of racing and hopefully put me on the podium.”
Qualifying for Rounds 11 and 12 of the Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup is scheduled to start at 11.20 on Saturday (2 August) and this will be followed by the first of two race at 16.40.
Round 12 will get underway on Sunday (3 August) morning at 11.10.
