Nicky Catsburg has enjoyed a great start to his season with Polestar Cyan Racing and following a strong showing in Hungary last time out, is second in the FIA World Touring Car Championship standings. With momentum on his side as he heads to Nurburgring Nordschleife (25-27 May, 2017) for round four…
Nicky, you finished fifth and second at the Hungarian round last time out. Tell us a bit about your weekend…
“My weekend in Hungary was quite good, scoring decent points for the championship and scoring my first Podium for Polestar Cyan Racing.
“In race one we lost a couple of positions due to a bad start but could regain some of those positions to finish in fifth. In race two I probably had the best start of my WTCC career and went from P4 to P2.
“Unfortunately, Rob Huff hit me in turn two which sent me into my teammate Nestor Girolami, which meant the end of the race for him.”
You’re second in the standings now, the leading Polestar Cyan Racing driver, consistency and pace are paying dividends…
“Yes, consistency is the key when fighting for the championship, we cannot afford any DNF’s at this stage. I am happy to be in P2 but we need to start taking points away from (championship leader) Tiago Monteiro.”
You have the Nurburgring coming up – a circuit you are very familiar with from your GT racing… What are your expectations?
“The Nurburgring 24H weekend is always one of my favourite events of the season! Such an amazing track and an amazing atmosphere. I hope we can do well here with our Polestar Cyan Racing S60, we will be the heaviest car on track but I think we can still do well. I hope and expect to be fighting for the podium.”
