Nicky Catsburg has one aim this year in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and that is to become the 2017 champion at the wheel of the Volvo S60 Polestar TC1.

Catsburg secured five podium finishes last year in the WTCC and took victory in Russia. The new season gets underway this weekend (7-9 April, 2017) with the WTCC Race of Morocco and for Catsburg, this is a new chapter in his career as he aims high with Polestar Cyan Racing.

On working with Polestar Cyan Racing
“This is my first race so it is always going to be a big challenge as we have been working hard and will have to keep pushing hard. I have new teammates in Thed Björk and Néstor Girola and this is a new team to me, so I will be busy understanding how everything works.”

On the aspirations for the year ahead
“This is a great opportunity for me and with that I have one aim and that is to win the title. We need to keep in mind that we’re in a development race with the other teams. No one stood still over the winter period, so we need to see where we are this weekend in Morocco. We are going for the championship, which means we won’t take risks, we’ll be aiming to secure points and stay safe.”

On Morocco as the opening round of the championship
“We went to the track for the first-time last year and the Marrakech circuit is a tough one to start with as it’s predominantly long straights and then tight corners. It will be a hard race to start with, but equally it’s a challenge and it will be our first real indicator of where we stand.”
