Nick Catsburg has been selected to represent BMW Motorsport in a ROWE Racing-prepared BMW M6 GT3 in the second edition of the FIA GT World Cup in Macau (17-20 November).
In 2016, the Dutchman has been part of BMW’s factory effort as the German marque debuted its M6 GT3 racecar in the flourishing Blancpain Endurance Series, which encompasses famous 24-hour races on the Nurburburgring Nordschleife and at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Having impressed throughout the campaign, Catsburg has been elected to re-join ROWE Racing to conclude the M6 GT3’s maiden season in the second annual FIA GT World Cup at the 63rd Macau Grand Prix.
An annual showdown for competitors from the globe’s most prestigious GT arenas, the planet’s top teams, drivers and manufacturers all assemble in the former Portuguese dominion to vie for the coveted World Cup at an event that is designed to harmonise all FIA-sanctioned GT3 championships and generate extensive media exposure.
It will be Catsburg’s first outing on the perilous, barrier-lined Circuito da Guia, but the 29-year old is well aware of the street track’s reputation and is simply grateful to be representing BMW at such a renowned race meeting.
“The FIA GT World Cup is a race we all want to participate in and I am very happy to be the lucky one to go to Macau for ROWE Racing and BMW,” said Catsburg. “I have never raced at Circuito da Guia before and this already makes a difficult race harder. I will try to get to know the track using a simulator. I would like to thank BMW Motorsport and ROWE Racing for giving me this awesome opportunity.”
“I’m really looking forward to the ROWE Racing team being represented at the FIA GT World Cup in Macau with a strong overall package of the BMW M6 GT3 and Nicky Catsburg as the driver,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “We have very fond memories of this street circuit. BMW Motorsport has celebrated many major wins there in the past. Without a doubt, Macau is a worthy venue to bring the successful debut season that we have experienced with the BMW M6 GT3 to a close.”
