The Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup enters its penultimate round at Corby’s Rockingham Motor Speedway this weekend (6-7 September) and Devon Modell will be seeking to score a podium finish on a circuit he has an affinity for.

Billed as ‘the fastest track in Europe’, the huge oval circuit at Rockingham leaves a lasting impression on every visitor, as unparalleled viewing areas and grandstands allow fans to witness the action unfold at every corner. With long straights and a challenging sequence of tight hairpins and fast sweeping bends, the UK Clio Cup is sure to deliver another dose of excitement.

Showing that the he has the necessary skills to compete in motorsport’s highest echelons, Modell scored his fifth podium of the season in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Kent’s Brands Hatch circuit (30-31 August) and still remains in the title hunt with one race to go.

Having stormed to a podium finish in the highly competitive British GT at Rockingham earlier this season, Modell is well acquainted with the 1.94mile circuit and is ready to hit the ground running in Friday’s free practice sessions.

At a weather contrasting Knockhill, Modell kept his composure and negotiated his way through the ensuing contact, while also fending of current Drivers’ Championship leader, Josh Cook, to finish as high as sixth.

Narrowly missing out on a top three result at the Corby circuit during the UK Clio Cup’s 2013 visit, Modell will be hoping to go one step further this weekend and stand on the winners’ rostrum for the first time in 2014.

“I’m looking forward to racing at Rockingham this weekend, as I’m a big fan of the track and have raced there on several occasions already this season,” said Modell. “There is currently quite a big difference between several drivers, but there are countless overtaking spots and the ability to slipstream down the long straights, so it should be competitive. You get can get a good tow in these latest generation Clios, as they rev higher than the previous model, but it’s easier to make mistakes in these ones because they’re harder to bring back from slides. I’m aiming for the podium this weekend, as I had my best showing at Rockingham last year.”

Qualifying for Rounds 15 and 16 of the Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup is scheduled to get underway at 10.50 on Saturday (6 September). This will then be followed by the first of the weekend’s two races at 15.00, before the second race take place at 13.00 on Sunday (7 September).
