Meridian Racing has set its sights on achieving more silverware in the highly competitive Dunlop MSA Fomula Ford Championship of Great Britain with a slightly amended driver line-up at Oulton Park this weekend (7-8 June).
Following a five-week break, Essex-based Meridian Racing will be hoping to build on an already positive 2014 Formula Ford season when it resumes at Cheshire’s technically challenging Oulton Park circuit.
Having extended his lead at the top of the Scholarship standings at Thruxton, Connor Mills will be looking to build on that gap by scaling the winners’ rostrum once again.
Currently seventh in the overall points, Mills, who has never raced on the 2.69mile International circuit, is relishing the challenge at hand.
“It has been a very up and down season so far and there are a few areas we need to work on,” said Mills. “We had some very good results at Donington and Thruxton, but a couple of unwanted DNFs at Brands Hatch. I’ve never raced at Oulton Park before, so this weekend will be a completely new experience for me, but I’m looking forward to it. It’s a very technical circuit and it shouldn’t take me too long to acquaint myself.
“An overall podium would be fantastic, but the main objective for this weekend is to extend my lead atop the Scholarship standings. The ideal scenario would be for a wet qualifying and dry races, as I’m very quick in wet conditions and it will give me a decent chance of scoring a pole. From there, I should be able to hold position in the races.”
Meridian Racing welcomes the arrival of Connor Jupp, who makes his Formula Ford debut in the team’s second Mygale single-seater.
The Essex-based youngster has been touted as the ‘future Lewis Hamilton’ and has an extensive background in Karting, accruing several accolades such as the 2008 British Karting Championship and a second place in the 2011 TAG Junior Supernationals in Las Vegas.
Meridian Racing Team Manager, Matt Davies, said: “The team is hoping for a strong weekend at Oulton Park; Thruxton was difficult and it didn’t live up to expectations following Donington Park. A lot of work has gone into the cars in the interval period to improve performance for this weekend.
“The team has been out testing a lot over the past few weeks, putting a lot of work into the setup of the cars and coaching the drivers. We are extremely happy to welcome Connor Jupp, who joins Meridian for his first experience of car racing. He’s looking forward to an exciting opening weekend and a promising season. Overall, we are in a very positive place and are confident all the hard work over the past few weeks will pay off at Oulton Park.”
Qualifying for the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain is scheduled to get underway at 10.25 on Saturday (7 June), followed by Rounds 10 and 11 at 14.20 and 17.45.
The weekend’s third and final race (Round 12) will get underway at 15.45 on Sunday (8 June) and will be shown live and in high definition on ITV4 and ITV4HD.
