Nicky Catsburg capped off a great weekend in the FIA GT Cup at Macau this afternoon (20 November 2016) with a seventh-place finish overall, second in class in his Rowe Racing BMW F13 M6 GT3.
Having finished in the same position in Saturday’s Qualification race, Catsburg lined up for the main event today and hoping to make gains. He made a good start, gaining and then losing position with the factory Mercedes of Renger Van Der Zande.
Catsburg settled into seventh position, only for the red flags to come out on lap two, bringing the race to a temporary halt. The race resumed after a lengthy delay for barrier repairs only for early race leader Laurens Vanthoor to suffer a massive crash in his Audi R8 and for the race to be halted for a second and final time, ending the race prematurely.
“We hardly got to do any racing today, it’s really frustrating,” said Catsburg. “The BMW felt great but we didn’t really get a chance to move forward with the red flags and delays and it’s a shame for those many fans watching that we were unable to really get underway properly and put on a good show.
“Still, it has been an interesting weekend and I have learned a great deal about Macau which can only be good if I’m here in 2017…”
