Rising single-seater star Aidan Wright has joined forces with BAM Motorsport Promotions – the PR and agency division of BAM Motorsports Group that specialises in PR support for race teams and drivers – during a crucial juncture in his career in the brand new Formula Masters China Series (FMCS) with the multiple title-winning Meritus GP team.
Wright, backed by SLY Collective – an original Australian men’s underwear brand that embodies the edgy Gold Coast lifestyle – has had a rapid ascent up the motorsport ladder.
A highly-successful Karting career spanning eight years and a strong maiden season in the 2012 JK Racing Asia Series (JKRAS), demonstrated that the young Australian has the ability to star in the highest echelons of international motorsport.
After an awe-inspiring guest appearance in the 2012 Formula Pilota China Series season finale, where he stunned the competition by translating pole position into podium finishes, Wright is now in a critical phase of his quest for Formula 1 stardom, as he contests his first full season in the brand new Formula Masters China Series (FMCS) with the ultra-successful Meritus GP team.
Meritus GP has an illustrious history in motorsport that spans three decades. With multiple titles – 34 in total – to its name in Formula Asia, Formula BMW Pacific, Formula V6 and the GP2 Asia Series, Meritus GP is Asia’s most successful racing team.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Peter Thompson-led outfit has cost-effectively set a new standard in professionalism.
Sponsorship from Malaysian petroleum giant, Petronas, not only ensures Meritus GP’s engineering and preparation prowess far exceeds that of its competitors, but allows it to provide young, talented drivers with an effective platform on which to build a successful single-seater career.
The new-for-2013 FMCS, launched as part of the Volkswagen Group’s ‘SportsCar Project China’ scheme, will tour the Asia-Pacific region’s greatest circuits in China, Korea and Malaysia.
An enticing formula developed for captivating racing, also ensures that only the most talented racers come to the fore; competitors are provided with equal equipment in terms of engine, chassis, fuel and tyres and, with teams limited to minor setup changes, driver ability is the difference between success and failure.
BAM Motorsports Group Director, David Madgwick, said: “We’re always excited to begin working with a new driver, but particularly when they’re as talented as Aidan has proven to be. His CV is impressive and it will be an honour and a privilege to work with him during one of the most critical, yet challenging steps on his journey up the motorsport ladder. I wish him all the best for his 2013 season in the Formula Masters China Series.”
Wright added: “This is an important year in my career development and it will be great to work with BAM Motorsport Promotions – I believe we can do some great things together. I’m up against a field of very talented drivers in the Formula Masters China Series and, while I’d never underestimate the competition, my aim has to be championship glory. It’s a very exciting time for me!”
Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2013 Formula Masters China Series will take place on 28-30 June at the Ordos International Circuit in Northern China.
