An opening round full of mixed fortunes sees WestCoast Racing focused and ready to kick start its title bid in the next instalment of the 2016 TCR International Series.

The renowned Swedish team sits in second place in the TCR International Teams’ standings as it heads to the acclaimed Circuito do Estoril in Portugal for Rounds 3 and 4 of the season.

The Estoril circuit is arguably the most famous Portuguese racetrack. Built in 1970, it hosted Formula 1 Grands Prix between 1984 and 1996 and will pose a tough test for the TCR International Series’ drivers, their cars and tyres, with its chicane, long corners and heavy braking zones likely to lead to some close, exciting racing.

Last time out in Bahrain the competition was as fierce as expected, WestCoast Racing and its drivers enduring a turbulent race day. Now, with a new race weekend ahead, a return to winning ways and strong points finishes are the main objectives.

WestCoast Racing/Sportpromotion Team Principal, Greger Petersson, said: “Although it didn’t exactly go to plan last time out in Bahrain, this, as we all know, can be Motorsport. We’ve now learnt our lessons and will be back stronger and quicker in Portugal. The TCR International Series is now more competitive, with more cars and more teams involved in the championship this year. But our set-up is strong; we have three top drivers who all looked quick in Round 1 and a car in the form of a ‘Step 2’ Honda Civic – all the ingredients we need to deliver some solid championship points, narrow the gap to the outright leaders and truly get our title challenge underway.”

The second round of the 2016 TCR International Series takes place on 23-24 April, with Sunday’s races starting at 11:25 local time and 17:05 local time. Live streaming of both encounters will be available on the official www.tcr-series.com website, where you can also follow all the news during the build-up to this weekend’s race action.
