Swedish race team, WestCoast Racing, confirms Rob Huff for a fourth JAS Motorsport-built Honda Civic in the 2015 TCR International Series finale in Macau (19-20 November).
Huff’s record in Macau is second to none. The 2012 FIA World Touring Car Champion has scaled the top step of the winners’ rostrum on no fewer than seven occasions and, having been faced with several options, has chosen to race one of four WestCoast Racing Honda Civic TCRs in this year’s Macau Grand Prix.
WestCoast is naturally delighted to have attracted a former World Champion and a multiple Macau winner who is widely regarded as one of the best touring car drivers of his generation, and that it has done so is testament to its professionalism and the results achieved since the beginning of the inaugural TCR International season in March.
Several strong performances have yielded multiple race wins, podium finishes and pole positions for drivers Gianni Morbidelli and Kevin Gleason and placed the squad well within the main fight for both the Teams’ and Drivers’ titles heading into the final throes of the campaign, which concludes on the perilous, barrier-lined streets of Macau.
As a result, WestCoast cannot afford to rest on its laurels. Huff’s arrival will likely strengthen the team’s title push and increase its chances of capping off what has already been a remarkable season in the most spectacular of styles, with two more Macau race victories there for the taking.
“Macau’s Circuito da Guia street track is quite simply the most challenging race circuit I’ve ever raced on and my record is strong there,” said Huff. “I’m really pleased to have been invited to drive in the TCR International Series finale there and I am confident we will have a competitive package for this truly unique event.
“It also serves as a great opportunity to team up with and compete against friend and sometime endurance racing teammate Kevin Gleason, who has emerged as a race winner in the inaugural season of the TCR International Series with WestCoast Racing and, while it will be a lot of fun, I’ll certainly be trying to get more Macau wins!”
WestCoast Racing Team Manager, James Nixon, said: “Rob (Huff) is widely regarded as one of the world’s best touring car drivers and is unquestionably the most successful driver ever to compete in Macau so we are delighted to have the opportunity to welcome him to WestCoast Racing for the event, to bolster our existing squad.
“We have to thank JAS Motorsport for making this happen. We were provided with a very competitive base with the Honda Civic TCR and have been able to build on that throughout the season, and JAS has been instrumental in bringing Rob aboard for the Macau season finale, where I’m sure we will be potent.”
WestCoast Racing is excited about the prospect of welcoming new drivers to the fold for the Macau Grand Prix, with one seat still available.
