SV’s James Weston, from Tunbridge Wells, has designs on podium finishes in the concluding round of the fledgling 2013 Michelin Clio Cup Series with Protyre on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit (21-22 September).

Weston, aged 25, has had a positive initiation to car racing in the new-for-2013 Michelin-backed Clio Cup Series.

He has worked methodically with guidance from SV Director, Danny Buxton, to hone his driving technique and has subsequently emerged as a consistent top five finisher and Class 4 victor.

However, with the 2013 Clio Cup Series culminating at his home circuit of Brands Hatch, the Tunbridge Wells resident hopes to break into the top three places and scale the winners’ rostrum in front of his large entourage of guests, including his family and friends.

“This season has flown by and I’m keen to end what has been a positive maiden season on a high at my home circuit, Brands Hatch,” said an expectant Weston. “While I haven’t had any seat time since the previous round of the series at Rockingham, I’m quite confident about my chances this weekend; I’ve taken part in numerous trackdays at Brands Hatch, I got my racing license there and have been an avid spectator since I was about three or four years old, so I know the circuit like the back of my hand.

“Podium finishes are the aim. It’s a very achievable objective, as I took a huge leap forwards at Rockingham. We just need to continue nibbling away and reducing the gap to the frontrunners with decent free practice and qualifying sessions so we’re well prepared going into the races. I have a lot of people coming along, including members of my family and friends, so I want to pull off a big result for them and continue the run of success SV has experienced in the main Renault UK Clio Cup.”

SV Director, Danny Buxton, added: “James takes huge strides forward every time he gets in the car and the improvement he made in terms of his outright pace at Rockingham was nothing short of phenomenal, especially as he doesn’t have the budget to test between race meetings.

“I said then that he’s well within striking distance of the podium places and I stand by that. While there’s still a lot for him to learn, I truly believe he is capable of scaling the winners’ rostrum at Brands Hatch, ending what has been a very productive season on a high. It’ll be particularly nice for him to achieve this with so much home support from his family and friends.”

Michelin Clio Cup Series with Protyre qualifying is scheduled to take place at 9.25 on Saturday (21 September), with Round 7 at 13.50 that afternoon.

The second qualifying session for Round 8 will begin at 10.50 on Sunday (22 September), with the race itself at 16.05.
