Teamwork Motorsport will kick-start its Hong Kong Touring Car Championship (HTCC) season at the Guangdong International Circuit (GIC) this weekend (11-12 April), with Paul Poon, Samson Fung and Andrew Lo all piloting brand new Suncity Group-liveried Peugeot RCZs.

With five left and eight right-hand turns and a 718metre-long straight that will expose any aerodynamic deficiencies, the 1.75mile Guangdong International Circuit is located in Da Wang, Sihui and holds an International FIA Grade III licence that enables it to host a number of racing events, including the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).

Increasing its foothold in the Asian racing scene, Teamwork Motorsport will contest the forthcoming HTCC alongside its Chinese Touring Car Championship (CTCC) commitments, fielding three newly-built Peugeot RCZs for Poon, Fung and Lo.

The team has been busy preparing for this weekend’s event, shaking down the RCZs with its three drivers, who have all made inroads in terms of driver performance, car setup and reliability.

With backing from title sponsor Suncity Group, Teamwork Motorsport is a ‘band of brothers’ and famously sealed the HTCC Teams’ and Drivers’ crowns in 2008, 2011 and 2012. Having missed the opening round of 2015 due to the ongoing build of the recently collected RCZs, the team is confident that it has the necessary tools to challenge for outright race victories from the off.

“During my first outing in the newly-built Peugeot RCZ, I was able to achieve some very satisfying lap times, which proves that the car has a lot of potential, giving me and the team a great amount of confidence,” said Fung. “With the build and development of the new car, we didn’t have sufficient time for the season opener. In fact, we just about finished the build in time for this weekend’s event, but, fortunately, Teamwork Motorsport made it happen.

“My priority this weekend is to win, which I feel this a very rational target. Completing both races this weekend will be plan B in order to collect as much data as possible, having missed the opening two races. We will also need to be scoring points at every round to qualify for the Macau Grand Prix in November. But, overall, it should be a great weekend.”

Qualifying for Round 2 of the Hong Kong Touring Car Championship (HTCC) is scheduled for 11.50 (UTC) on Saturday (11 April), with the first of two races later that same day at 16.25 and the second at 11.50 on Sunday (12 April).
