Teamwork Motorsport is set to return to Shanghai, China for another double-header weekend at the Tianma Circuit, where it is hoped that it will compete at the sharp end of the SINOPEC LUBRICANTS China Touring Car (CTCC) and Hong Kong Touring Car Championships (HTCC) (19-21 June).

Taking to the Shanghai International Circuit’s Formula 1 configuration only a fortnight ago, Teamwork Motorsport competed in the CTCC’s 2.0T category – as it will replace the outgoing 1.6T category as of next season – where turbo issues hampered any meaningful running during free practice.

Despite being unable to obtain any setup references, Samuel Hsieh was able to position his Citroën C-Elysée on the front row, with Sunny Wong suffering from brake-related issues down in tenth.

During the headlining race, Hsieh took the lead from the Volkswagen works drivers, before making an unfortunate mistake in the wet conditions that would see him retire from the race, with Wong then taking over at the head of Teamwork Motorsport’s charge.

The experienced touring car driver was able to use his Citroën’s straight-line speed to take the initiative, before a left-rear puncture destroyed all hopes of victory and left him limping home in eighth position.

With the turbo issues now behind it, the Guangdong-based team will take to the shorter, but equally intense Tianma Circuit.

At just 2.063km, the low-speed, narrow circuit provides the spectators with great entertainment from their grandstand seating, where they can see the whole track.

Sharing the same circuit, Teamwork Motorsport’s HTCC drivers, Samson Fung, Paul Poon and Andrew Lo, experienced technical difficulties with their Suncity Peugeot RCZs during free practice, before going on to dominate the top three positions in qualifying and the races.

The trio will once again look to replicate that feat this weekend at the Tianma Circuit, which should play to the strengths of the Peugeot RCZs.

Returning to the Teamwork Motorsport fray for a second outing in the HTCC Roadsport Challenge is ex-CTCC driver, Alex Hui, who finished both races in second position and at the top of his category last time out at the Shanghai International Circuit.

Piloting one of the team’s Citroën C-Elysées, Hui will line-up among a plethora of heavily modified rivals that include Mitsubishi Evos, Caterhams and Aerial Atoms and will once again look to compete at the sharp end.

Qualifying for the SINPOEC LUBRICANTS China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) is scheduled to get underway at 17.30 on Saturday (20 June), with the headline race the following day (Sunday 21 June) at 14.42.

Qualifying for the Hong Kong Touring Car Championship (HTCC) will take place at 10.40 on Saturday (20 June), with the first of the weekend’s later that day at 18.20 and the final race on Sunday (21 June) at 10.20.
