Macanese racing driver Kevin Tse and American racer Bill O’Brien form a strong and experienced line-up for Teamwork Motorsport’s 2016 TCR Asia Series campaign with newly acquired Volkswagen Golf TCRs.
Tse has raced a plethora of cars in various categories since 2005 and his résumé features lucrative campaigns in the Lotus Cup, Formula Geely, VW Scirocco Cup, Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Porsche Carrera Cup and Asian Le Mans Series (AsLMS), as well as sporadic outings in the Dubai 24 Hours and the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) with the factory Ford team.
With more than a decade of experience, Tse is sure he will make a positive impact when he joins Teamwork Motorsport’s TCR Asia programme, saying: “I am really looking forward to starting the TCR Asia season in just a few weeks. Teamwork Motorsport is a new team for me, but I have known a few of the key personnel for some time so it’s not completely unfamiliar.
“I know there will be some intense competition, so I’m not thinking about results just yet. I just want to focus on my own performances. As the TCR Asia programme is spread over two days, learning the car and the circuits quickly will be crucial. I hope my experience in different cars and my track knowledge will give us an edge!”
O’Brien, meanwhile, will contest the first half of the 2016 TCR Asia Series. The American is nothing less than a racing veteran with more than 30 years of experience under his belt. He will bring a vast bank of knowledge of different cars and circuits and experience as a team owner, having founding BlackArts Racing, which, under his leadership and management, won the Asia Formula Renault 2.0 Teams’ and Drivers’ titles in its first year of operation in 2015.
“I think my experience in racing, plus Teamwork Motorsport’s expertise in touring cars will make us a strong squad,” said O’Brien. “I may have relatively little experience in a front-wheel-drive racecar, but the racing principles are the same and I’m sure we can deliver some good results once I get a feel.”
Teamwork Motorsport enlisted Tse and O’Brien beliving there would be chemistry between the drivers that will hopefully move the team forward quickly in the inaugural TCR Asia season.
The duo will make their debut in the TCR Asia Series opener at the Korea International Circuit (14-15 May), while Paul Poon, Samson Fung, Alex Fung, Samuel Hsieh, Alex Hui and Sunny Wong will continue their journey in the Hong Kong Touring Car Championship (HTCC) and CTCC.
