SVR has reinforced its commitment to nurturing skilled young drivers, as 14-year old James Dorlin from Barnsley steps onto the first rung of the team’s ‘stairway of talent’ in the Junior Saloon Car Championship (JSCC).
Dorlin made his car racing debut in 2013, entering what was formerly the SAXMAX Championship following a prolific Karting career spanning three and a half years.
The Barnsley-based youngster made an instant impression in the entry-level ‘tin-top’ series for budding touring car racers by going on to finish runner-up in the final championship standings during a sensational rookie year.
Dorlin’s results and mature head grabbed the attention of SVR Director, Danny Buxton, who will act as his mentor for the duration of his 2014 campaign in the newly-renamed JSCC under the SVR umbrella.
Former Clio Cup Champion and British Touring Car racer, Buxton, will impart his wealth of knowledge and experience to forward 14-year old Dorlin’s burgeoning career, potentially moving up within SVR’s ranks and into such arenas as the Michelin Clio Cup Series and Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship, the Renault UK Clio Cup.
“I see an association with Danny (Buxton) and SVR as a key step in my career development, as he has a great reputation in motorsport and his track record in the BTCC and the Clio Cup, as both a driver and Team Director, demonstrates that he clearly knows what he’s talking about,” said Dorlin. “He runs a very successful team and knows the ins and outs of the sport both on and off the track and that will hopefully help me head towards my ultimate ambition of making a career out of motorsport as a professional racing driver.
“I’m about to enter my second year in the JSCC and, having come second in the championship, I can only target the 2014 title. The success I achieved last year took me by surprise and I definitely underestimated my potential – it massively surpassed my expectations. The main thing is getting experience and, looking back on 2013, I know I could have been better in various aspects. However, I’m more experienced and confident in the car than ever, so there’s no reason why I can’t win the championship.”
SV Racing Director, Danny Buxton, added: “To win races at the age of 14 in a super-competitive series like the JSCC is no mean feat. It’s extremely difficult and what I’ve witnessed from James (Dorlin) has impressed me greatly. I see the way he is on circuit – he’s very laid back, everything comes at his own pace and he doesn’t get flustered – and I believe he can go all the way. He’s calm, smooth and calculated for his age and he’s super-quick to boot, so it will be a privilege to guide him through his career and ensure he makes the right steps moving forwards.
“He’s learning all of the time and, while he follows our development programme, his skill set with his long-standing coach, Howard Hunt, is really starting to produce results.”
