Teamwork Motorsport’s Sunny Wong and Alex Hui achieved a sensational one-two result in the latest instalment of the SINOPEC LUBRICANTS China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) at the Shanghai International Circuit (26-27 September).

The Guangdong-based outfit made its debut in the CTCC’s headlining 2.0litre class with a pair of TC1-inspired Citroen C-Elysees and was tasked with testing and developing the series’ aerodynamics and tyre regulations ahead of the 2016 season.

The always critical qualifying session concluded with a Teamwork Motorsport front row lockout and this was translated into a one-two finish on the ultra-modern SIC – the host venue for the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix – in view of the world’s leading ‘tin-top’ teams in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).

Hui got the better of his teammate at the start and Wong was forced to play a rear-guard action against the hard-charging Volkswagen contingent during the initial stages of the race, but soaked up the pressure and eventually settled into a rhythm to make a break.

Wong was purely focused on bridging the gap to Hui and retrieved the initiative with a clean and well-executed passing manoeuvre on lap four, before pulling out an indomitable advantage over the rest of the pack to lead home a Teamwork Motorsport one-two result.

It was an impressive and dominant performance and the Teamwork Motorsport Citroens looked impressive, even compared to the works cars in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), which topped the bill at the SIC.

“I am thrilled with my drive and with what Teamwork Motorsport has achieved this weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit,” said Wong. “It’s a privilege to lead my teammate Alex (Hui) and secure a one-two result in front of the FIA WTCC teams and drivers, as well as the huge crowds that have turned out to watch the on-track action. Alex played the team game and didn’t defend too hard, as achieving a result for the team was more important. It has been a fantastic weekend.”
