The Suncity Racing Team is looking to extend its glory run with its trio of Peugeot RCZs in Rounds 3 and 4 of the Hong Kong Touring Car Championship (HTCC) at the Guangdong International Circuit (GIC), as Alex Hui targets victory on his first appearance of 2016 in the series’ Roadsport Challenge division (2-3 April).
The Suncity fleet achieved a perfect score in the opening two races of the year at the GIC, with Alex Fung, Samson Fung , Paul Poon and Samuel Hsieh filling the podium spots.
Alex Fung achieved a maiden race win on his competitive debut and he said: “My first race weekend was almost perfect. A mechanical failure in Round 1 caused a DNF, but I was still able to convert my pace into a win in the second race. Of course, my mentors, Samson Fung and Paul Poon, taught me a lot and were easy on me during the race. This weekend I feel a little more relaxed and I hope to squeeze more performance from myself and the car to achieve another podium.”
As for Alex Hui, the Chinese driver had a very strong 2015 season and will continue in the HTCC Roadsport Challenge with a Citroen C-Elysee.
Many of his rivals will boast some high-powered Mitsubishi EVOs and Lotus racecars, but there is a very realistic chance of victory with his 300-plus horsepower Citroen.
“Our car doesn’t match our rivals in terms of power, but it has an official China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) chassis and it’s lightweight, and I believe the Citroen’s good handling characteristics will more than compensate for our speed deficit,” said Alex Hui.
Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2016 Hong Kong Touring Car Championship (2-3 April) at the Guangdong International Circuit (GIC) will be followed by the opening instalments of the China Touring Car Championship and TCR Asia Series in May.
