Teamwork Motorsport’s Alex Hui claimed his first second place result while representing Suncity Group Racing in Round 6 of the Hong Kong Touring Car Championship (HTCC) Roadsport Challenge to significantly boost his chances of earning an entry for this year’s Macau Grand Prix.

The Guangdong International Circuit (GIC) was the host venue for Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2016 HTCC and Alex Hui continued his campaign in the China Touring Car Championship-spec Citroen C-Elysee, which has very different power and handling characteristics to the cars it competes against.

Round 5 started in nice cool weather, but Alex Hui’s Citroen stalled at the start and he was subsequently at the tail end of the pack by Turn 1. However, the Chinese racer patiently worked his way up into fifth place by lap 11 when spilt oil from a huge crash at the first corner forced a red-flag stoppage.

More determined and looking to make amends in Round 6, Alex Hui started from fifth on the grid and crossed the finish in second. A pair of Safety Cars restarts on the first and last laps left him vulnerable against his high-powered opposition, but he utilised his Citroen’s superior braking and cornering abilities to recoup lost positions and conclude the 18-lap contest satisfied in the runner-up spot.

“Thanks to Teamwork Motorsport for preparing a good, reliable car, and to my teammates, friends and fans who were all at the GIC to support me. When I saw them climbing the fence as I crossed the finish line I certainly felt the ‘Teamwork spirit’. It is a happy second place for me!”

In the HTCC’s 1.6T division, dominant performances from the three Suncity Group Racing drivers, Paul Poon, Samson Fung and Alex Fung, puts them in pole position for the Drivers’ and Teams’ titles, and to be awarded an entry to the Macau Grand Prix in November. Official announcements are to come.
