SV Racing’s David Pittard heads to Northamptonshire’s Silverstone circuit for the pivotal penultimate round of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup with the intention of closing down on his championship rivals, as Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup title protagonist, Josh Cook, joins the Ginetta party (27-28 September).
Running on the shortest of Silverstone’s track configurations, the 1.64mile National Circuit, Pittard will need to be at the top of his game to ensure he maximises his points score on what remains unchartered territory.
The KX Akademy scholar from Letchworth Garden City, who in his maiden GT4 Supercup season, has exceeded all expectations and is very much in the title hunt with two crucial rounds remaining at Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
He has shown tremendous skill all year and, having recorded his eighth top three finish of the season at Rockingham less than three weeks ago, the Saxon Gate Motorist Centre-backed driver heads to ‘The Home of British Motor Racing’ with the sole aim of reducing the points deficit to those ahead of him on the championship leaderboard.
“It feels an age since I was last in the car at Rockingham, so I’m very excited and raring to get back behind the wheel,” said a characteristically enthusiastic Pittard. “I’ve never raced on the National Circuit before, so this weekend’s event will be a learning curve for me, but it’s one I welcome with open arms. Due to its fast nature, qualifying well is vital in order to score as many points as possible come raceday.”
UK Clio Cup title contender, Josh Cook, will join SV Racing’s GT4 Supercup ranks to sample a Ginetta G55 in a one-off outing at Silverstone and Pittard is excited to have the support of his fellow KX Akademy recruit at this critical juncture.
“It came as a big surprise to hear Josh (Cook) will be in the second SVR Ginetta, but it will be good to see what he can do,” said Pittard. “I’ll be looking to coach him as well as I can to make sure he’s at the sharp end and hopefully taking some points away from my rivals, but obviously not outscoring me!”
Qualifying for the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup is scheduled to get underway at 11.45 on Saturday (27 September), and will be followed by Round 23 at 16.25 and Round 24 at 12.35 on Sunday (28 September).
