Newbridge Motorsport traveled to Portugal last weekend (28-30 October, 2016) for the Algarve Classic Festival, taking the class victory.
The Milton Keynes-based team fielded the 1972 Lola T290, designed by former Williams F1 technical director Patrick Head. With just 34 ever built, driving duties in Portugal were entrusted to Neil Primrose.
Very much aimed at European Gentleman Drivers, Primrose does however have a wealth of experience in racing classic cars, having competed in the Le Mans Classic and Nurburgring 24H events.
The race got underway with a rolling start with Primrose gaining confidence and lap time with each passing lap of the 200km event before taking the chequered flag in first position in the 2-litre category.
“The Algarve Classic Festival is a wonderful event, held on the fantastic Algarve international circuit in Portimao,” stated Team Principal Richard Tovey. “This year saw an eclectic mix of vehicles entered in the 200km endurance, ranging from the mighty Can-Am powered Lola V8s through to the modestly powered Lotus 30.
