The British weather did its best to influence the results in the MSA British Dunlop Endurance Championship at Donington Park, but failed to dampen the endeavour of sportscar and GT specialist, Newbridge Motorsport, which guided its drivers to multiple successes across the weekend (25-26 July).
Utilising the best conditions on Saturday, Welshman Danny Holland piloted his Newbridge Motorsport-prepared Volkswagen Golf to a victory and third position in the day’s two 90-minute races.
Weather conditions deteriorated on Sunday and both Britcar Trophy races were blighted by torrential rain. Newbridge Motorsport fielded two cars for championship debutants, double amputee Mark Allen, who took over the race winning VW Golf, which utilises a Newbridge-developed hand control system, and Canadian racer Fareed Ali in a Porsche Boxster.
Both were entered in Class 4 of the Britcar Trophy and enjoyed faultless runs in the opening encounter. Allen led home Ali for a class one-two and fifth and sixth place finishes in the overall classification and replicated those results in Race 2 later that same day to join Holland in being named ‘driver of the day’ for their notable performances in varying conditions.
Newbridge Motorsport now turns its attention to a second outing at Donington Park in as many weeks (1-2 August), with Guillamme Gruchet returning to action in the newly-established Endurance Racing Series as the Milton Keynes-based team continues building towards an LMP3 programme in the 2016 European Le Mans Series (ELMS).
