The #90 Aston Martin Vantage may be the next generation of GTE and it may have shed the blue livery for a stunning new red look, but for Salih Yoluç the challenge in his second season of the FIA World Endurance Championship remains the same; to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans and to take the LMGTE AM championship title.
Four runner-up positions in the 2018-19 Super Season saw Salih finish third in the Am class with TF Sport. The next step for the only Turkish racer in the Championship is to become a regular race winner and with Charlie Eastwood and Jonny Adam alongside him for the season, this is a realistic prospect.
Last year at Silverstone, Salih and the team were set to take their maiden win in what was the third round of the Super Season. A pit lane violation and subsequent 75-second penalty however dashed hopes of the win and the trio of drivers had to be content with second place.
Off the back of a sensational result at the 24 Hours of Spa, where Salih and his teammates dominated the event to take their first victory, Salih has high expectations heading back to Silverstone next week.
“We had a good test in Portugal last week, so we’re really looking forward to the start of the season,” said Salih. “Last year was good, but some bad luck and a few mistakes put us behind and under pressure. I’m driving better than ever, and I know what Jonny and Charlie are capable of.
“It’s a long season, so finishing every round with good points is essential. Silverstone has been good to me in the past, so I’m aiming high and chasing that first WEC win.”
The 4 Hours of Silverstone takes place on Sunday 1st September from 12 noon.
