GUSTO Technik has been confirmed as the official Asian partner of Volkswagen Motorsport for the distribution, support and servicing of all the German manufacturer’s TCR racecars and spare parts.
GUSTO will work closely with VW Motorsport on its TCR project and will explore further cooperation opportunities to promote the marque and its TCR products.
Currently, the focus is on planning logistics and support for the 2016 season and the intention is to utilise GUSTO’s Hong Kong headquarters as the support point due to its strategic positioning in the region, while basing the technical team that will be responsible for providing all customer support in Zhaoqing, China.
GUSTO Technik Managing Director, Alex Hui, said: “The TCR Series represents a new concept that facilitates the reduction of initial R&D, maintenance and spares costs. This certainly lowers the barrier for race teams and individuals, yet on a competitive level. We are currently working on a marketing and sales plan to push the Volkswagen and TCR products, but this won’t be limited to the TCR Series and we will be looking towards other areas that could make use of them.”
As SEAT is also under the control of Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) and its TCR cars share many common components with the VW equivalent, GUSTO Technik has also agreed to carry SEAT parts for customers in Asia.
Eduard Weidi, Volkswagen Motorsport’s Head of Customer Sports, added: “The TCR International and Asia Series’ proved to be successful in 2015. This year we expect more customers to run the Volkswagen TCR machines. With the TCR calendar featuring two very unique circuits, like the Marina Bay Singapore Grand Prix track and Circuito da Guia in Macau, the demand for TCR cars in Asia will increase and we can confirm GUSTO Technik as our official partner for distribution and servicing in Asia. This partnership will certainly help Volkswagen Motorsport to penetrate the Asian market and ensure a high quality service.”
