FFF Racing by ACM secured two fine third place finishes this weekend (19-21 May, 2017) at Chang International Circuit, Thailand in what was the second round of the Blancpain GT Asia Series.
“It was a really good improvement with both drivers and from the team itself,” said FFF Racing Team Owner Sean Fu Songyang. “There is still some work to do to get the top spot, but with third in class, we are closer to the pace of the top runners and we had the pace to run with the best of them.
“It’s a good improvement on both drivers and a step forward with the car. The team is getting more efficient knowing that the container arrived one day later because of customs in Thailand! We secured two second positions in the Am-Am class as well, despite a few issues. A big thanks to the amazing job of the crew to get the car back on track and finish with another podium.”
Aidan Read, who was this week confirmed as part of the Lamborghini Squadra Corse GT3 Junior Program, and Alberto Di Folco proved competitive throughout the weekend in the #1 Lamborghini Huracan GT3, qualifying fourth in the Silver-Silver class for the first race and finishing in third.
Read took the first stint, gaining three positions at the start and managed to pull a nice gap to the Porsche behind. Putting pressure on the Mercedes of Hunter Abbot before a safety car period. A two-second stop-go penalty following a pit stop infringement dropped Di Folco down the order but he responded with a strong drive to third in class.
The pattern was repeated on Sunday with Di Folco and Read taking third position, just ten seconds behind the race winner. Di Folco made up five positions at the start to run ninth overall and pitted from the same position at half distance to hand over to Read, who quickly pulled out a five second cushion on the car behind. The Australian moved up to sixth overall and third in class in what was another strong drive.
The sister #2 Lamborghini of Lin Yue and Zhu Junhan had a roller-coaster weekend in the Am-Am class. The first race provided a great battle as positions swapped almost by the lap. Contact on the final lap however saw them drop to from the lead to second in the Am-Am class.
The second race saw the duo finish second in class and as a whole and it was a marked improvement in form in this the second round of the championship.
