WestCoast Racing will welcome Chinese racer Sunny Wong, a leading protagonist in the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC), for the TCR International Series’ much-anticipated title-decider on the streets of Macau (19-20 November).

Wong regularly frequents the top step of the winners’ rostrum in the emerging CTCC and will make his TCR debut in a fourth WestCoast Racing-prepared Honda Civic TCR alongside the team’s title contenders, Gianni Morbidelli and Kevin Gleason, as well as former World Champion and seven-time Macau winner, Rob Huff, who will also make his TCR debut on the perilous, barrier-lined Guia circuit.

The 2015 season has yielded multiple race wins, podium finishes and pole positions for WestCoast Racing and the Swedish outfit will mount a full four-car attack on the title-decider to maximise its chances of concluding what has been an outstanding and highly lucrative year in the most spectacular of ways, therefore Wong could play a pivotal supporting role in the former Portuguese colony.

“I am very excited about racing the WestCoast Racing Honda Civic TCR in the Suncity Group 62nd Macau Grand Prix,” said Wong. “Although I don’t have experience with this particular car, I think I can adapt to it quickly on the Guia circuit, because our current CTCC car is actually more powerful and more difficult to handle.

“The team’s driver line-up is also very strong. I don’t expect to be able to match Kevin (Gleason), Gianni (Morbidelli) and Rob (Huff) for pace, but I will certainly try my very best to learn from the big boys and support them throughout the event. I had conversations with Rob earlier this year. He is very kind and agreed to teach me some of his Macau tricks, so I guess I already have a head start!”

Wong added: “WestCoast Racing is also a very strong team, as we can see from the results it has achieved in its first year of international competition in TCR, so this will surely be a special experience for me.  I will enjoy learning and racing with this world-class race team and teammates and competitors.”

WestCoast Racing Team Manager, James Nixon, said: “Everybody at WestCoast Racing is thrilled to welcome Sunny Wong to the team for the season finale in Macau. It’s going to be incredible to conclude what has been a spectacular season on the Guia circuit and the excitement and intensity will be higher than ever as the title fight goes down to the wire. We have a formidable driver line-up and we’ll give our all to finish the year with a flourish. Sunny will be a great addition and he could play a critical role in deciding the outcome of the races and the championship, hopefully by taking points from our rivals!”
