SV Racing (SVR) is delighted to confirm that 2014 Ginetta Junior Champion Jack Mitchell will test one of the team’s Clio Cup cars at Donington Park in the East Midlands on Thursday (20 November).
With a strong background in motorsport, Mitchell began karting at eight years old and collected many accolades along the way, finishing second in the British Karting Championships and Formula Kart Stars, before moving into cars at the age of 14.
Joining the TOCA support package in the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2013, Mitchell enjoyed an outstanding debut season that exceeded all expectations, after amassing ten rookie trophies, three third-place finishes and becoming the first rookie ever to take an outright win.
Continuing his impressive form into the 2014 season, Mitchell won six of the opening eight Rounds to stand firm atop of the Drivers’ standings and cement himself as a serious title contender.
Ultimately, Mitchell, from the Garden of England, Kent, would accumulate 11 podium finishes to be crowned the 2014 Ginetta Junior Champion, which entitled him to a prize Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) test with Motorbase Performance Ford Focus ST at Snetterton.
Now evaluating his options prior to the 2015 season, 16-year old Mitchell will pilot one of SV Racing’s multiple race-winning Clio Cup cars at the historic Donington Park circuit on Thursday (20 November).
“Obviously the Clio Cup car is going to be quite different from the Ginetta, G40, but I had a test in the BTCC Focus last week and I’m looking forward to seeing how they both compare,” said Mitchell. “I have some data to look at, which makes it slightly easier for me heading into Thursday’s test and I’m sure I can be there or thereabouts at the end of the day. Having won at Donington Park twice this year, the circuit is one I really enjoy and know very well and this will allow me to extract the best from the car and myself.
“The main objective is to learn the car, as there is a chance I will be racing in the UK Clio Cup next year and, to be doing that with a team that had such a remarkable season in 2014 is great. I am sure Danny (Buxton) will give me a great car and I am really grateful for the opportunity.”
Danny Buxton is rightly proud of what has been achieved during his first year at the helm of SV Racing, having claimed the UK Clio Cup Teams’ title and finished runner-up in both the UK Clio Cup and Ginetta GT4 Supercup Drivers’ standings.
As part of the Wettenhall-based tteam’s ongoing commitment to nurturing young talent, Buxton is delighted to welcome Mitchell aboard.
“I am really excited about getting Jack (Mitchell) into one of the SV Racing Clio Cup cars,” said Buxton. “He is at the top if his game and to have won the Ginetta Junior Championship in only his second season is an outstanding achievement. His development rate for someone so young has been very impressive; he can get into anything and be fast straight out the blocks and I hope SV Racing can bring the best out of him, as he assesses his options for next season.”
