Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG exuded sheer dominance as Akash Nandy completed a hat-trick of home wins in Formula Masters’ fifth event at Sepang International Circuit over the weekend. The 16-year old Malaysian ace stamped his authority in all three races, where he led by no less than a staggering three second advantage in each.
The Malaysian driver’s impressive command of the car on his home track yielded front row starts for Races 13 and 15. The first race began with torrential rains, amplifying the tough challenge set for Asian motorsport’s young blood in Sepang.
Due to an incident on the circuit, the Safety Car was deployed after the fifth lap. This slowed down the race, where Nandy was already leading by seven seconds. Nonetheless, Nandy took victory by just over three seconds from compatriot Afiq Yazid of Meritus GP, setting the fastest lap along the way.
Nandy secured Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG another superb win in Formula Masters’ second race on Saturday afternoon. This time, the Malaysian driver stormed straight to a lights-to-flag victory, leading his challengers by almost five seconds. Once again, he set another fastest lap by 0.6 seconds.
Ultimately, Nandy concluded the Formula Masters weekend by winning Sunday’s final race. Starting second on the grid, the Malaysian driver got off to a strong start and overtook pole-sitter Tanart Sathienthiraku of Eurasia Motorsport. After a faultless drive, Nandy crushed his opponents, taking victory by seven seconds in Race 15 – Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG’s third victory of the weekend.
Akash Nandy, KCMG Formula Masters Driver: “The team did an extremely good job. Their precision allowed me to win this weekend so thank you everyone. It’s great to win on my home track and I consider it as a great achievement for me and also for the team. We have pushed so hard for this the whole season and the time has finally come. The team did an amazing job on planning everything right. I want to thank my sponsor, Rembawang Group, for giving me this opportunity. We will go to Shanghai next month and our aim is to keep our momentum up.”
John O’Hara, KCMG Deputy Managing Director: “It’s a massive accomplishment to score a triple victory.
